Alampur is well-known for
its temples of the Chalukyan era, known for their architecture and interestingly
these were relocated stone- by -stone from their original sites to aviod
submersion by Tungabhadra irrigation projects, by the archealogical Survey of
India. Alampur is around 200 km from Hyderabad and 14 km from Kurnool.

Goddess Saraswati in the entire Peninsula is located here, on the banks of the

KEESARAGUTTA 35 km off Hyderabad has a very interesting past. Through it
is now an attraction for the Ramalingeswara and Lakshmi- narasimha shrines
located there, Keesara was originally called Kesari, after Hanuman. According to
legend, Sri Rama was so enchanted with beautiful surrounds of the hill there
that he asked Hanuman to bring a "Sivalinga" from Varanasi, Hanuman came back

Temple famous for its 1.5 metre high image carved in jade.
KONASEEMA

KONDAPUR West of Hyderabad about 40-45 kms beyond Madhapur in the R. R.
district, is this town of mounds famous as the Taxila of the South. It has
archaeological excavations dating back to 300 B.C. Relics of a Buddhist complex,
coins in copper, lead, silver, and gold of the Roman and Satvahana era were
found here. Sculptures in limestone and megalithic graves have been unearthed
nearby.
LEPAKSHI
(480 kms) has the finest temple architecture
and paintings. As per local legend Lord Shiva and Parvati were married on the spot
where the Kalyana Mantapa stands. To the south of the main shrine is a huge Nagalingam, standing on a granite block, shrouded by a seven headed cobra, magnificently
carved out of rock. The monolithic Nandi near the Veerabhadra temple is another
remarkable feature. Carved out of a single rock, 4.5 m. high and 8.23 m.wide.
MANTRALAYAM
is 351 km from Hyderabad. Madhva Saint Sri Raghavendra attained his Samadhi here
some 300 years ago. A large number of followers and devotees throng this little
town located on the bank of river Tungabhadra.

MEDAK CHURCH (100 kms) is built on an immense scale in solid white granite. This Gothic
structure is one of the largest and the best in the country, it is chiefly
known for its large pointed stained glass windows that tell the story of the
Bible in blazing coloured pictures. Pocharam, 16 kms from Medak has a
beautiful lake and a wild life sanctuary.
NAGARJUNASAGAR
/ NAGARJUNAKONDA The world's largest masonry dam, 149 kms from Hyderabad on
the river Krishna, Nagarjuna is well worth a visit. At the site of the
excavations of Nagarjuna Konda, a famous Buddhist city was threatened with
submersion by the waters of the dam. The objects were shifted to an island in
the centre of the lake which an be reached by lanch and the ride is delightiful.
The museum established here contains fine old Buddhist sculpture and carvings,

PAKHAL 200 kms from Hyderabad, has a wild life sanctaury built by the
Kakatiya dynasty around 1213 A.D. The hills are covered with forests and the
sanctuary covering an area of 900 sq. kms is on the shores of a lake.
PULICAT LAKE A salt water lake bird sanctuary with 461 sq. kms area near
Tada, Nellore Dist. area attracts around 75 species of birds. Cottages

RAMAPPA
LAKE & TEMPLE at Palampet, 74 kms. from Warangal is the famous Ramappa Temple.
The Nandi bull is in balck basalt & is fabulous. 1 km. away lies the Ramappa

SRI KALAHASTI lies 36 kms from Tirupati, between two step hill on the
banks of river Swarnmukhi. The temple of Lord Shiva in the form of vayu inga is

SRISAILAM,
232 km south of Hyderabad is situated on the bank of river
Krishna. The 512 meter long Srisailam dam located here is surrounded by natural
beauty. On the south bank of the Krishna river, in the Nallamalai forest, on
a 457 meter high hill is the Bhramaramba Mallikarjunaswamy temple, one of the

Suryalanka

and is 2 metres high. It is believed to be richest temple in the contry and is

VIJAYAWADA
The famous Chinese traveller Hieun Tsang visited this place named after the
goddess Kanakadurga also known as Vijaya. Caves and temples with inscriptions
dating back to the first century are to be found here. It is located 271 kms
from Hyderabad between the Krishna river and its tributary, Budameru.
WARANGAL
The marvellous thousand pillared temple built by Rudra Deva in 1163 A.D. is
located here. This star shaped shirne is dedicated
to Shiva, Vishnu and Surya and has beautifully carved pillars, perforated
screens and images. The rock - hewn elephants and the Nandi are worth seeing. It
was built in the 12th century by the Kakatiya kings. Warangal also has an
ancient fort.
YADAGIRIGUTTA 69 kms away, east of Hyderabad on top of a hillock is
situated the Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple. It is a belief in this area that a
